Most Able
At Oulton Academy we believe that every student should be challenged. We provide personalised learning which identifies the most able students as those how have demonstrated, or have the potential to demonstrate, achievement at a high level when compared to other children of the same age.
Within the classroom, teachers identify the most able students and ensure they have sufficiently challenging tasks. This allows the most able students to achieve their potential and develop key life skills. We also encourage the most able to take an active and leading role in our enrichment program. Developing the skills and resilience they will need in adult life.
We actively participate in the Brilliant Club. The club is structured around seven tutorials, and pupils also attend two trips to the most competitive universities to speak with current undergraduates and learn about university life. Twelve pupils are in one placement, taught in two smaller groups of six. They work towards completing a challenging final assignment which is marked and moderated using university grades.
In addition to the above, our curriculum allows students to study a variety of courses/ enrichments designed to stretch the most able: Higher tier subjects/ triple science/ further maths/ debating and STEM for examples.
Most able results
GCSE Grade 9s
In 2022, our students recorded a record-breaking number of grade 9 GCSE in the following subjects: English Language, English Literature, Maths, Combined Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, French, Russian, Business Students, Drama and Music. These fantastic results are only awarded to the top 6% of all students who sat GCSEs in 2022.
GCSE Grade 8s
In 2022, our students recorded a record-breaking number of grade 9 GCSE in the following subjects: English Language, English Literature, maths, Combined science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French, Polish, Spanish, Russian, Art, Business Students, Food Technology, Drama and Music, Photography and Textiles. These fantastic results are only awarded to the top 8.5% of all students who sat GCSEs in 2022.
