Governing Body

The Governing Body is there to provide strategic direction of the school and oversee the school leadership team. They are volunteers made up from parents, community representatives, Local Authority representatives and staff. They are critical friends and work with school staff to improve the school.

The main Governing Body meet three times a year and the focus of their meeting is strategic oversight of the school. In addition to this there are three sub-committees to hone in on specific aspects of school life;  Resources, Behaviour and Personal Development and a School Improvement Group. Governors also visit school to see policies or systems in action.

Governors have many important roles including:

  • Being a key link between the school, parents/carers and the local community.
  • Championing the work of the school in the local community.
  • Discussing ideas with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in planning the future development of the school and represents the views of different parts of the school community to influence decision making.
  • Monitoring how the plans are implemented, ensuring that the school ethos remains at the heart of decision making and strategic planning.
  • Continually reviewing the overall performance and impact of the school and makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Shaping school policies.
  • Offering challenging but positive and proactive support to the Headteacher.
