Duke of Edinburgh

The Bronze Award is now being offered for all Year 9 students. You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections:

  • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community.
  • Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities.
  • Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
  • Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad.

Mrs McIntosh is overseeing the award although many other staff will be involved in supporting expeditions and other elements of the programme.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a widely recognised qualification which develops key skills such as: leadership, organisation, team work and resilience. It also give young people the opportunity to learn new skills, build upon existing interests and contribute to the well-being of their local community.

Volunteering Physical Skills Expedition
3 Months 3 Months 3 Months Plan, train and complete a 2 day, 1 night expedition
All participants must undertake a further 3 months in the Volunteering, Physical or Skills section
